Duong Minh Chien

Duong Minh Chien

Defying traditions with his innovative storytelling, Duong Minh Chien was born in 1975 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Active in directing from the late 1990s, Chien has made his mark predominantly in the realms of drama and historical genres, with his most famous works including "The Buffalo Boy" and "The Floating Lives", the latter of which brought him accolades at various regional film festivals. Chien's authorial style is characterized by his raw, realistic portrayal of the Vietnamese countryside and culture, often employing non-professional actors to enhance the authenticity of his narrative. From the heart, Chien is more than a filmmaker; he is a visual poet who courageously explores the depth of human emotion and Vietnamese identity through his lens.
